In a lyrical but earnest show and tell, Jason Fulford and Tamara Shopsin wowed the audience last Tuesday evening with quaint films, magic tricks, exotic obscurities, and some answers to one of the most intimidating questions known to the creative human—how to work with the person you love.
For example, Tamara’s ingenious solution to sharing an intimate workspace is this clever little device:
These are two quarters, each painted green on one side and red on the other. Each partner places one on the corner of his and her desk, which indicates when he or she is too preoccupied to be spoken to. Simply brilliant!
Jason and Tamara’s visual and conceptual experiments extend far, far outside their office. Together, they seek and find hidden stories buried for decades in forgotten libraries, archived films, and private collections of eccentrics overseas. These snippets of ideas find their way into Jasan and Tamara’s continuous stream of photographs, prints, and products. And, into last Tuesday’s presentation of their precious findings, one of which is this:
It’s an improvised rubber band box they found in Japan. In Japanese, its face says “rubber bands.”
