BREAKFAST CLUB: MISTEAKS FOR BREAKFAST

Most designers are perfectionists and tend to hide their bloopers and bad-habits below the surface of a pretty portfolio. And rather than indulge in self-loathing after every foible, these spelling errors, lost files, forgotten names, and generally distressing missteps can be turned around into learning experiences, and even incorporated into the creative process. Join Joe Marianek, Associate Partner at Pentagram and Faculty at the School of Visual Arts to hear about his best mistakes and how you can make them too.

Joe Marianek is an Ohio-born designer based in New York City. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he has worked at Pentagram, Landor Associates, and other firms on a variety of interdisciplinary projects ranging from institutional identity to book design. His work has been recognized by the AIGA, Art Directors Club, Type Directors Club, and featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. Marianek has served on the board of AIGA Rhode Island, and is a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts, where he teaches senior thesis.
BREAKFAST CLUB
AIGA/NY’s Casual Morning Get-Together for the Sharing of Knowledge and the Drinking of Coffee.

Each Breakfast Club explores a specific topic of focus and is introduced by a discussion leader. Our conversations cover the range of creative, financial and pragmatic challenges that designers too often face alone—challenges that can often be overcome with open, casual dialogue. Baked goods and coffee are provided.
