4/ The Architecture of Sound
Renown writer and musicologist Garnette Cadogan guides an interactive evening on the art of listening, with Grain Audio designer Chris Weir, and sound engineer Dave Burke.

5/ A Conversation with Local Children’s Illustrators
Being an illustrator is exciting; your To Do list might include lines like “draw anthropomorphic trucks”, “research Macy’s Day parade”, “work on lawn ornament character designs”, or “buy apples at farmer’s market for reference”. Though the day-to-day work makes for an exciting and creative life, it can also be isolating. Brooklyn, however, is positively bursting with illustrators, and some of them have built a vibrant community. Hear four of New York’s children’s illustrators talk about their projects, working solo, and finding support from the community of NY illustrators and bookmakers.

6/ The New Yorker: Then and Now
The New Yorker’s Creative Director, Wyatt Mitchell discusses the history that inspired the update of The New Yorker’s signature typeface Irvin, the introduction of Neutraface to the magazine’s pages and the recent design refresh of the Goings On About Town section.

9/ Robert Nickelsberg
Robert Nickelsberg is a photojournalist who promulgates conflicts in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Iraq, India, and Sri Lanka. Nickelsberg’s book, A Distant War, covers the many facets of Afghanistan’s recent history, going back to the late ’80s. His penetrating photographs and illuminating testimony are accompanied by the writing of regional experts.
