AIGA/NY CONTRIBUTING WRITER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Are you a wordsmith who loves to write about design? AIGA/NY is searching for a stellar Contributing Writer volunteer to join our team. While no previous writing experience is required, your writing skills must be top-notch. The ability to write within our style and voice is crucial. Please see our site for writing examples of our format and tone. You can also browse our site to see upcoming and past events to get a sense of what you’d be covering. We’re looking for superior writing chops, passion for design and confidence with all things web-related. This is an unpaid, volunteer-based position. You will receive free admission to the event you’re covering. It’s a great way to network and give back to your community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write clear content that gives the AIGA/NY readers a recap of the event that you attended, while adhering to our writing style, format, voice and tone
- Photograph and document the event, the speakers, and the crowd
- Work with Managing Editor to execute the voice and tone of the recap

REQUIREMENTS
- Possesses superior writing and editing abilities (should we say it again?)
- Ability to write with clear intent in an audience-specific tone of voice
- Ability to say more with less, while avoiding passive voice and weak construction
- Ability to turn around tight, accurate copy while meeting deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills required, both written and oral
- Fast learner, extremely meticulous, independent and self-directed
- Passionate about attending design events and writing about them (we’ve got you covered on admission fees)
- Travel required covering various events (you’ll be asked to arrive 30min prior to the start of the event you’re covering to set up; travel reimbursement is not offered)

WE’D ALSO LOVE IT IF YOU HAVE
- Experience with event photography and Photoshop
- Experience writing design content or event recaps
