Over 100+ participants proved their design chops at the inaugural AIGA/NY Design Pub Quiz, held at Drom Bar on October 23, 2012.

Aaron Carambula emceed the event through a series of 5 rounds: identifying abbreviations (ex: WOFF, WTF, etc), identifying typefaces, identifying designers, identifying key commands (ex: InDesign key command for paste in place), and multiple choice (ex: iPhone width in pixels is (a) 768, (b) 256, (c) 1024, (d) 720). Each round consisted of 10 questions, with increasing difficulty.

Nineteen teams competed for design prizes that included posters, books, tote bags and free passes to AIGA/NY events. AIGA/NY staff and volunteers helped collect team answers and tally the scores.

Team sizes ranged from 2 to 7 people, and the team names were as memorable as the event itself.

Some of the team names included Objective Subject, Design Tron, Baseline Swag, Massimo’s Prosciutto, Stroke Your Descender, Ligature, Ligatures, Didn’t Kno, I Miss Quark, Beard With Owls, Team Name TK, Sexual Petting Zoo, Cattitude (major bonus points for having a team t-shirt, pictured above), SS2, Fonts With Knowledge, Demi Goddesses, We Have Jobs, S + M, and Tittles.

Teams Objective Subject and Sexual Petting Zoo won the quiz by having the two top overall scores.

The event concluded with prize awards. AIGA/NY received a resounding vote from the crowd to hold more Design Pub Quiz events in the future.
