1/ Urban Lettering Tour with Paul Shaw
The type tours have visited every borough except Staten Island. This tour will rectify that oversight. Find a wide range of lettering—from inscriptions in stone to neon bar signs to ghost signs to graffiti—at the Battery and on Staten Island.

2/ Food and Transportation: New Systems Approaches to Transforming Cities Sustainably
By the year 2050, about 80% of the earth’s population will reside in urban centers with much less space and resources. Speakers Dickson Despommier, Dan Albert and Sue Zielinski will present their visions for the future of cities that include models for vertical farming and transportation alternatives.

4/ Workshopping New York: 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale
What is the future of public space in a city with changing needs? Presentation topics include the role of the architect in shaping public space in the city; the possibilities for joining public works with public space; and the specific question of New York’s responses to changing access to resources and changing environmental and social conditions in the 21st century. Speakers will include Jonathan D Solomon (co-curator of Workshopping); Michael Sorkin (Terreform); Hilary Sample and Michael Meredith (MOS); and Guy Nordenson, Catherine Seavitt, Adam Yarinsky, Stephen Cassell, and Anthony Fontenot. Reception to follow presentation.

6/ Typornographers
Erik Marinovich, Jason Wong, Dennis Payongayong, Aaron Carámbula, the four guys behind Friends of Type present behind-the-scenes stories and inspiration on the truth of type blogging, taking a private act public, and debating the morality of it all.

7/ Folded Inspiration: Kit Hinrichs and Trish Witkowski
Kit Hinrichs, Studio Hinrichs, and Trish Witkowski, the Foldfactory.com, use their experience in design and folding to inform and inspire. Hear the do’s and don’ts of folding, display exotic folding formats, and see demos of how folding can elevate a printed piece from interesting to memorable.
