2/ Situated Exploitation? From Mobile Playgrounds to Sweatshop City
How does the intertwining of labor and play complicate our understanding of exploitation and “the urban”? This conversation will look at urban spaces of technology through the lens of digital and not-digital work in terms of those less visible sites and forms of work such as homework, care work, interactivity on social networking sites, life energy spent contributing to corporate crowd sourcing projects, and other unpaid work.

3/ Bill Moggridge, The Role of Collecting, Curating and Education in the Context of a National Design Museum
Bill Moggridge, named head of the Cooper-Hewitt museum early in 2010, will discuss his current role at the museum and the opportunity it offers him to explain design on a national scale.

4/ The Original “Mad Man”: David Ogilvy—The Making of Modern Advertising
Veteran ad exec Kenneth Roman reveals the inside story of former boss David Ogilvy, one of the original ‘60s “Mad Men”. Ogilvy, created iconic campaigns for Rolls-Royce, “The Hathaway Man” and “Schweppervescence” and in the process, transformed advertising from a disreputable business into a dynamic industry.

Photographer Albert Watson has shot more than 250 Vogue covers, 40 covers for Rolling Stone, movie posters, movie star portraits, etc; anyone who’s ever browsed a magazine rack has seen an Albert Watson cover. He will discuss his editorial work, his process, the secrets to crafting a career over 40 years in the making, and “Strip Search”, his personal look into the world of Las Vegas.

10/ LTL Architects
Join LTL Architects at their office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work including a detailed look at Arthouse—a recently opened contemporary art space in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1997, LTL Architects explores opportunistic overlaps between form, program, and materiality. The firm’s work is part of several museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art as part of the Rising Currents exhibition, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, Carnegie Museum of Art, and the U.S. Pavilion at the 2004 Venice Architecture Biennale. LTL received the 2007 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Interior Design.
