1/ Parsons Festival

Parsons The New School for Design presents the Parsons Festival, inaugurating an annual tradition of hosting art and design events that are open to the public. The two-week festival includes thesis exhibitions and critiques, thought-provoking public programs, interactive installations, gallery openings, workshops, and special events.

2/ Painted Fanciful Narrative Clay Plates

Inspired by the pottery in The Global Africa Project, participants will use air dry clay set into paper plates as their ‘canvas’ to paint their stories with bright tempera paint.

When: Sunday, May 8, 2011, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Where: Museum of Arts & Design, 2 Columbus Circle, NYC

Price: $10 program fee

3/ Type with Teeth

Craig Ward will discuss his typographic influences and education in relation to what is popularly held up as good typography today, presenting a selection of case studies and behind the scenes insights into his own work.

When: Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Where: Type Directors Club, 347 West 36th Street, Suite 603, NYC

Price: Free TDC members, $15 students, $20 general public

4/ Unique New York: Printmaking Workshop

This hands-on letterpress printing workshop offers the rare opportunity to learn from the renowned Jim Sherraden and Brad Vetter from Hatch Show Print, and the chance to make your own prints from their woodblocks.

When: Thursday, May 12, 2011, 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm

Where: The Arm, 281 North 7th Street, Brooklyn, NY

Price: $200 tax-deductible fee
