Museum of the Moving Image presents
MODERN-DAY MELIES: VISUAL EFFECTS ARTIST ROB LEGATO IN PERSON
Wednesday, February 15, 7:00 p.m.
A presentation by acclaimed visual effects artist Rob Legato about his collaboration with Martin Scorsese and a Dolby Digital 3-D screening of Hugo
Martin Scorsese’s new masterwork Hugo uses the very latest in film technology to celebrate the early days of movie magic, including the pioneering effects of 19th-century French filmmaker Georges Méliès. The dazzling visual effects of Hugo were supervised by Rob Legato, who won an Academy Award for his work on Titanic, and who has had a remarkable collaboration with Scorsese, on films including The Aviator, The Departed, Shine a Light, and Shutter Island.
Legato will present exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from Hugo and his other Scorsese films, and talk about their creative process. The presentation will be followed by a Dolby Digital 3-D screening of Hugo in the Museum’s magnificent new theater. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of one of the great collaborations in contemporary cinema, and to enjoy Scorsese’s astonishing movie on the big screen.
