Adam Joseph, Geremy Jasper, Georgie Greville and Greg Brunkalla, the core team of Legs Media, presented creative collaborations in film, video, performance and installation at the AIGA/NY Design + Film: Legs Media held at the Museum of Arts and Design on Thursday, January 6, 2010.
Acting as writers, directors and producers, the team presented their work, inspiration and creative process.
Legs is a creative multi-media production studio, “it’s hard to define what we do because there are so many different media to work with,” said Adam Joseph.
Natural Gravity was the first piece of work Legs Media produced in 2008. It was used as a video background for their website, with the idea that “you get experience of seeing our work and see that we make moving content,” said Adam.
Next, Greg Brunkalla presented the full creative process on an installation for Temperley London: from the initial sketches to the final execution. The brief was to create an alternate experience to a runway fashion show inspired by old circus.
Referencing the motion from the era of old circus, the team created a zoetrope where each layer had its own look. The result was a stop-motion installation fashion show.
Geremy Jasper continued the presentation with music videos. The first music video Legs Media produced was for Florence and the Machines, which won the MTV music award. The concept was to represent Florence as the shamanic leader of a surreal orchestra, where the musical elements of the song are personified by colorful characters combining blue girls, gospel singers, African drummers and pyrotechnics.
In directing Dog Days Are Over, Georgie Greville and Geremy Jasper made the most of their tight budget and limited resources. “The gospel singers are two people multiplied many times, all shot on green screen in different takes,” said Georgie Greville.
Next, Legs Media showed the magic behind making Harry Potter star Emma Watson come alive on Marie Claire iPad living cover. Watson smiles, blinks and breathes, just like the newspaper in the magical universe of Harry Potter. “A lot of fashion brands are willing to push the limit visually,” added Georgie Greville. This was the first seamless loop motion-cover of a magazine.
The last project presented by Geremy Jasper was the Target Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular. Performed in the windows of the Standard Hotel, Legs Media collaborated with design agency Mother New York to create an epic extravaganza fashion show employing an LED light show, dancers and highly orchestrated music. “We created a colored-themed fashion show that was a cross between a military exercise and a style routine,” said Geremy Jasper, who wrote the five acts of the twenty-minute show.
The most impressive fact about this project was that despite the meticulous planning and off-site rehearsals, the team only had one night to prepare and make sure everything was completely calculated on site. The result was an impressive twenty-minute display of music, lights, dance and fashion.
An audience Q&A concluded the presentation.
