BREAKFAST CLUB:
PROCESS & PRODUCT AT FIFTYTHREE

Making hardware, software, and communications work seamlessly together is a complex endeavor, requiring an application of design thinking to both product, and the processes that drive production. Product designer Ian Curry and software developer Julian Walker will give a view into FiftyThree’s design process, including innovative prototyping methods and storytelling approaches.

FiftyThree’s popular “Paper” app and “Pencil” hardware inspire people to be creative, and have won a broad range of industry awards including Apple’s 2012 iPad App of the Year.

Ian Curry is a Product Designer at FiftyThree. Previously, he spent five years as Director of Interaction Design for Local Projects, working on a broad range of media design for museums and public space. Clients included the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, NYC & Co., and the Office of the Mayor of New York City. Ian has taught interaction design at Pratt, Parsons Design and Technology, and SVA’s MFA in Interaction Design.

Julian Walker is a co-founder and the head of software development at FiftyThree. His past work includes pioneering graphics and user-interface technologies for Microsoft’s Photosynth and Seadragon (both featured in TED talks), in addition to Silverlight and Bing Maps.
